The Chicago Greektown Educational Foundation (CGEF) Mourns the Loss of Founder Leo Louchios
Chicago, August 3, 2023 – With profound sadness, we announce the passing of a visionary leader and compassionate philanthropist, Leo Louchios. Leo’s enduring commitment to Greek education and his unyielding dedication to the Chicagoland community have left an indelible mark that will continue to inspire for generations to come.
In 2014, Leo Louchios embarked on a noble endeavor, founding the CGEF with a steadfast dream of empowering Greek schools in the Chicagoland area. Born in Cyprus, Leo’s deep-rooted connection to his heritage ignited his passion for nurturing Greek culture and ensuring its vibrant presence in our community.
Leo was more than a founder – he was the embodiment of generosity, compassion, and unwavering devotion. As a true public servant, he dedicated his life to uplifting others, leaving an undeniable impact on the lives of those he touched throughout his service in Illinois.
A cherished pillar of the Greek community, Leo Louchios stood as the driving force behind the CGEF, a beacon of hope and opportunity for Greek education. Beyond his roles, Leo’s vibrant spirit was interwoven with the fabric of Greektown, breathing life into its streets and enriching its essence with his boundless love for Greek heritage.

About Chicago Greektown Educational Foundation
Since 2014, Chicago Greektown Educational Foundation, has dedicated itself to providing resources for Greek language education. CGEF is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that is governed by a dedicated volunteer board of directors that secures funds for educational materials and tools; develops initiatives that integrate technology into Greek language programs; and establishes and distributes tuition scholarships. Funds are allocated to programs at individual schools as well as to pilot projects which integrate technology into Greek language classrooms.
