The Chicago Greektown Educational Foundation (CGEF) announced at its annual fundraiser in Chicago the creation of a new scholarship that will support Greek language education programs utilizing new technologies.  The new “Nick Mirkopoulos Scholarship” will enable Greek schools to modernize their curriculum and enhance student participation.

“I am proud that Cinespace is partnering with the Chicago Greektown Educational Foundation to preserve the Greek language in the United States for not only this generation but for future generations as well,” said Cinespace CEO Alex Pissios.  “It’s also a tremendous honor for our family to have the scholarship named after Nick Mirkopoulos, a man who cherished his Greek heritage,” he added.

The new scholarship provides money to purchase iPads, smartboards and software specifically developed to teaching Greek language to young people.

Since its inception five years ago, CGEF has donated over $100,000 to eight regional Greek schools.  “Our mission is to support as many Greek schools to ensure successful growth of their programming,” said Irene Koumi, president of CGEF.

The CGEF fundraiser was held on October 3 at Joy District in Chicago.  For more information or to donate, please visit www.greektowneducation.com
