The Academic Committee is central to carrying out the vision of the Chicago Greektown Educational Foundation (CGEF) to provide an affordable program of Greek language and culture classes (GLCC). Greek language instruction at the GLCC is interdisciplinary and grounded in the Fine Arts and Technology. The Foundation ensures that the GLCC uses the best teaching strategies, resources and materials to educate its students who range in age from three to adult. The Academic Committee is responsible for ensuring that the GLCC functions in a manner that efficiently and effectively meets the academic needs of all its students. The committee:
- Acts in an advisory role to the Foundation Board on all matters related to the improvement of the GLCC program and provides additional information as needed
- Develops and establishes policies for review and purchase of new textbook and other academic materials or instructional tools
- Develops and implements an annual review to evaluate student, parent and teacher satisfaction with the program making appropriate recommendations to the board based upon these findings
- Supports the GLCC program administrator in developing and creating thematic units and classroom activities to enhance student engagement during classroom instruction.
